Maximizing the Maxi Dress - 2011 Spring 70s Trend | Gypsy Genre

Vanessa Hudgens is Boho Chic in a leopard print maxi dress by Blu Moon
As the weather warms up, it seems local fashionistas have jumped at the opportunity to ditch the heavy winter garb for a lighter wardrobe. In keeping with the retro vibe, a few of our favorite celebs have been spotted prancing around in one of the current seasons revisited styles; the maxi dress. Fashion designers such as Emilio Pucci, and Diane Von Furstenburg sent fashion models sashaying down the catwalk draped in quintessential gypsy inspired pieces, factoring into the ‘70s trend for spring 2011. Always right on time, Gypsy Genres favorite Boho queen, Vanessa Hudgens, along with style icons like,  Jessica Alba  and Drew Barrymore gravitated toward long, airy, sheer silhouettes covered in abstract patterns and animal prints, adding a bit of glam to the bohemian aesthetic.

Why we love the maxi dress? It's super sexy, can be dressed up or down, and is an iconic '70s hippie chic staple piece, whats not to love?  To wear the maxi by day, add a fringe belt tied low around the waist, leather sandal and floppy hat for a care free look and by night go with a platform wedge shoe, accentuated with chunky bangles, large hoop or feather earrings. Make sure to keep your makeup fresh, and natural for a flirty flower child look, think Cher. With the myriad of chic, reasonably priced styles available, finding the perfect maxi dress should be no problem. If you’re looking for something truly unique and original, shop around at thrift/vintage stores or rummage through the attic for mom’s old duds. Feel like splurging? Fringe Swimwear by L'Space Spring 2011 | Gypsy Genre

Woodstock fashion, Cher, Bo Derek

So, what would you get if you combined a little bit of Woodstock 1969, a touch of Cher circa 1975 and a
sprinkle of Bo Derek 1979 into one magic swimsuit potion? Well we would imagine, two super sexy hippie chic, fringe adorned silhouettes such as the "Slinky Solid Dolly Bandeau Fringe Bikini" and the "Stardust Fringe One Piece" by L'Space.  Monica Wise, Creative Director and Lead Designer of the fashion forward beachwear brand left no leaf unturned while setting the tone for the '70s glam trend of Spring 2011, and we couldn't be more elated. Executed in an array of vibrant colors, both styles hold a personality of their own. The bikini  features a sassy fringe covered bandeau top and cutout bottoms, as seen on Denise Richards in Black while Cameron Diaz proves that the plunging fringe neckline and low cut open back on the Stardust simply screams sexy.

Why do we love these swimsuits? Both styles are the epitome of "haute" with added sophistication, can be mix and matched with a slue of bottom styles for a perfect fit, not to mention the fabric is eco-friendly. Accentuate with a big floppy hat/ metal bangles or keep it simple and chill by the poolside accessory free, the fringe will speak for itself. Thinking about splurging on one or both items? Yea, we don't blame you, but consider yourself warned that no matter which retro inspired swimsuit you choose, you are sure to be an eye catching, attention getting magnet. Ready to turn heads? Big Floppy Hat - Spring Fashion Trend Must Have | Gypsy Genre

Retro Brigitte Bardot in Big Floppy Hat

The must have fashion trend for Spring 2011 is all about making a statement. Seen worn by fashion models all over the runways for spring/summer 2011, and popping up everywhere now that the weather is warmer is the big floppy hat. The nostalgic 70’s style once worn by fashion icons such as Faye Dunaway, Cher, and the beautiful Brigitte Bardot is back and as sexy as ever.

Whether worn with a crochet swimsuit to block the sun while lounging poolside, or paired with a flowy boho blouse and flare leg jeans for a retro chic look, the floppy hat demands attention and is sure to turn heads.  Celeb fashionistas such as KateMoss and Kim Kardashian have reinvented the ‘70s style and made the floppy hat a wardrobe staple piece.

What’s great about the look is that it is easily accessible and can be worn played down for more of a chill, laid back look or played up as a glammed up accessory.  Aside from being super versatile, which by the way adds sexy bonus points to the spring trend, the floppy hat can be purchased for almost nothing in a plethora of styles available that look just as chic as those seen on the runway.  Ready to funk up your style with this retro fab look? Click here to shop for your respective style of the big floppy hat here.
